Australia

Going "Down under" in Australia is an experience filled with many adventures!

Sydney, in South Wales, is Australia's largest city, with 4 million people .  Its natural deep water harbor gave early ships security, which turned the harbor into an exciting and cosmopolitan city.   It has an energy that makes it one of the most vibrant cities in the world, while at the same time retaining a friendly and easy going atmosphere.  Sydney has two great landmarks, the Harbour Bridge and the unmistakable Opera House which became icons the day they were completed.  The "Rock" Area in Sydney was the first settlement, in 1788.  The historic "Rock" area is a trendy neighborhood of cafes and shops tucked into historic buildings.  You can wander through the many narrow alleyways, sandstone stairs, and a beautiful church which combine to weave a fascinating tapestry of life in past and present times.  Outside the city is Bondi Beach.  The boom of the surf could well be Sydney's summer theme song.  With an abundance of fabulous beaches, the famous Bondi Beach is a must see and will be a highlight of your stay.  It is one of Australia's most famous beach and among the world's best known surfing beaches.

Cairns is a modern and lively city and with an exciting atmosphere!  It is located in the tropical north part of Queensland.  Immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Cairns, the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef.  Check out Cairn's golden beaches north of the city centre  with their boardwalks, beachfront restaurants and shops.  The Great Barrier Reef, stretching for over 1,250 miles,  is visible from outer space and is composed of more than 2,800 individual reefs.  Board a fast catamaran and venture out into the Pacific Ocean.  Don't forget a hat that covers your ears, like an Australian outback hat, 2 towels, sun blocker, your bathing suit and camera.

South Australia is the country's driest state, and its Outback is an expanse of desert vegetation, a land of scrubby saltbrush and hardy eucalyptus trees.  The people of the Outback are hardy as their surroundings.  They are also often eccentric, colorful characters who will happily bend a visitor's ear over a drink in the local pub.  In this unyielding country, you must be tough to survive.  The "Red Centre", is named for the deep color of its desert soils.  For thousand of years, this vast desert territory has been home to Australia's indigenous Aboriginal  people.  Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock, is a great symbol to  Aboriginal traditions, as are so many sacred sites among the Centre's mountain ranges, gorges, dry riverbeds, and plains.  Alice Springs is at the center and is Australia's only desert city.

Outback - refers to any land outside the main urban area. It is home to a diverse set of animals species, such as Kangaroo, emu  and dingo.            Bush -  the term is iconic in Australia.  Bush describes a wooded area, intermediate between a shrubland and a forest.                                       Walkabout - refers to a rite of passage durind which a male Australia Aborigine would undergo a journey during adolescence and live the                 wilderness for a period as long as six months.
